Magnetic Island Schoolies 2008

In 2006, around 950 schoolies celebrated on Maggie Island, with no arrests or significant complaints from locals or schoolies themselves. 2008 is gearing up to be a great year for schoolies on Magnetic Island, attracting young people from all over far north Queensland.

To give you an idea of what Maggie is like for Schoolies, here is the program from 2005.

05 Magnetic Island Schoolies Activities & Events Schedule

20 November
2pm to 8pm - The registration booth opens (free) Check-In Zone, Alma Bay, Arcadia. Bring your current school photo identification (or proof that you have just completed year 12).

2pm to 6pm - Beach Sports (free) at Alma Bay, Arcadia. Members of the James Cook Uni Student Association will provide a range of equipment and join in with some fun beach sports such as beach volleyball, cricket, touch football or soccer.

8pm onwards - Free Movie Marathon at Alma Bay, Arcadia. Bring along a blanket and pillow, grab a spot on the grass, and watch whatever movie is playing.

21 November
9am to 8pm - Registration open - Check-In Zone, Alma Bay, Arcadia

8pm to 1am - Dance Party ($5) at Magnetic International Resort, Mandalay Ave, Nelly Bay. Bring your Schoolies ID (required for entry), the Schoolies bus will get you to and from the resort free of charge.

8pm onwards - Movie Marathon (free) Alma Bay, Arcadia

22 November
9am to 8pm - Registration open - Check-In Zone, Alma Bay, Arcadia

8.45am to 5pm - The Sunferries Reef Tour (registered Schoolies with ID $64 [other $109]) departs Nelly Bay terminal to John Brewer Reef, part of the Great Barrier Reef. Includes lunch and snorkelling gear. Booking required: call 1800 447 333.

8pm to 1am - Dance Party ($5) at XBase Resort, Nelly Bay Rd, Nelly Bay. Schoolies ID required.

8pm onwards - Movie Marathon (free) Alma Bay, Arcadia.

9am to 8pm - Registration open - Check-In Zone, Alma Bay, Arcadia

24 November
9am to 8pm - Registration open - Check-In Zone, Alma Bay, Arcadia

6pm to 8pm - Annual Schoolies Lawns Bowls Challenge (free) at Magnetic Island Bowls Club, Arcadia. Annual schoolies event (no previous experience required). Local bowling identities will be there to show you the ropes.

8pm onwards - Movie Marathon (free) Alma Bay, Arcadia

25 November
9am to 8pm - Registration open - Check-In Zone, Alma Bay, Arcadia.

8pm onwards - Annual “OHMYGOD, I didn't know they were taking my photo” Film Festival at Alma Bay, Arcadia (free). Stay on for the nightly Movie Marathon.
